what a peculiar process to see a sportsperson or an artist on television and feeling intensive fondness or dislike. it connects back to pindar's hymns for olympic victors, such an old human trait, and yet has changed its shape so much. how intimate the camera's gaze has become, how close does this person seem to be, and how distant to we remain, the computer on the lap. is this part of the attraction after all. we can love or hate and not be disturbed. we can be with the heroes without being rejected. without danger.
