1. This piece is a co-production; the result of a close collaboration with the Pansori singer Soohyun Moon. It started with online meeting in winter and spring 2024, in which I learned a lot about Pansori, about Soohyun, and about Soohyun's view to Pansori. A phantasy arose, starting from the Peompijunglyu scene in the Simcheong-ga, discussed and reherased at first online, then in Hanover in August 2024 and finally (finally-not-finally) in Seoul in September 2024, with a first performance October 4, 2024.

  2. This is the Peompijunglyu scene in Simcheong-ga: Simcheong has set foot in the ship which leaves the coast, to bring her to her death in being sacrified. In quoting old Chinese poems of T'ang period, the text evokes images of a hopeless existential loneliness and abandonment. One of these text fragments, in the German translation of Chung/Entreß (Pansori — Die gesungenen Romane Koreas, Band 1, Edition Peperkorn 2005, S. 221) says: Das Lied der Ruderer birgt die Trauer aller Zeiten ... [the song of the rowers contains the sadness of all times].

  3. We chose twelve short fragments from the original Pansori song Peompijunglyu. These fragements are like islands which the performer meets and which she shapes through different musical means. Also on stage there are islands, twelve islands of daily bits to which the performer reacts in different ways.
