Hommage à Gottfried Michael Koenig   2011

Written in collaboration with Clemens von Reusner, in honour of Gottfried Michael Koenig's 85th birthday. Premiered in Braunschweig at Haus Salve Hospes, 6.10.2011.

Our Hommage ties in with Terminus X. Two spectra from this composition served as musical base material for our piece. Setting out from an analysis of these sounds and their 'recomposition' on the basis of musical and structural ideas, we followed paths that we connected with Koenig's compositorial thinking. They included working with glissandizing sinus tone structures (the raw material of the terminus-series) as much as the development of variations of the starting sound, of variations of variations, of variations of variations of variations ... The concept of the develoment's shape stems from the idea of sound progressions, by which "the sounds tell no story except their own" (Gottfried Michael Koenig, Ästhetische Praxis - Texte zur Musik, Band 2, Pfau-Verlag, Saarbrücken 1992, S. 325).
